“I am so utterly sick of treading over worn ground wearing the same shoes. I have absolutely not idea what to do.”
“Just do anything, it’s better than nothing!”
“How is donating a can of green beans to food bank that already couldn’t handle the need going to help now?”
“You can’t fix the entire problem. Just make a difference where you can.”
“Why is this even a problem when we have had so much history to tell us this is bullshit?”
“Humanity is fucked up. I’m not sure what you were expecting.”
“If humanity is this messed up, why should I try to help at all?”
“Then why are you even alive?”
“Because there is beauty and possibility in the human condition. Why are we so eager to accept that humans are awful and hopeless?”
“Maybe your expectations are too high.”
“They probably are. I always expect people not to hurt their fellow human beings and that is clearly asking too much.”
“You know what I wonder?”
“When are the Nuremberg Trials?”
“No, why you’ve watched for this long and didn’t really do much about it.”
“What exactly could I do?”
“Anything.”
“What effect could that have had?”
“Probably very little.”
“Then why do it?”
“Obviously because you don’t believe in doing nothing. You’re the one falling short of your own expectations.”
“… You’re kind of the worst.”
“Yeah, you too.”
