Personal Curriculum: The Way Back In

I have lately given up on YouTube. I’m so tired of seeing the same 10 videos about the same person or event everywhere in my feed. But when the almighty algorhythm served me a video from Plant Based Bride called How to Create a Personal Curriculum (accompanying blog post on her website), something told me to click it. I’m so glad I did.

For what seems like ages, I have been looking for a way to keep learning and exploring the world. This planet is so gigantic and I want to know all about it, but this thing we call “brain rot” has gotten to me in ways I never anticipated and I got stuck, to say the least. Of course, I latched on to the Personal Curriculum idea.

It was everything I had been looking for!

  • You pick a subject you’re already interested in
  • You get to decide how you want to study (reading books, watching documentaries, creating final projects, etc.)
  • There’s structure within the system, but you are still in control of the structure (so an emergency doesn’t mean you fail)
  • You can even pick a practical application for your course in the form of a final project
  • You go at your own pace, ensuring you’re never up to midnight trying to get a final paper written

I had tried to create a digital garden, or blog again, or do… something? And it wasn’t working. But as soon as I heard the personal curriculum, I was off and running. I set up a Notion page and started creating classes. I had so much fun finding sources!

Here are some of favorite databases for articles:

I was planning on waiting until 2026 to officially start, but I have a bad track record with waiting. I’ve already completed one mini course on an interior design layout tool, and I’ve begun several others. It feels so good to read again. To think about different subjects and synthesize information. It’s good to know my brain still functions!

Can’t wait to see what 2026 will bring. I have so many ideas. I can’t wait to get started.
