A poem by Star LaBranche

What’s Your WiFi Password?

I am a cybernated native
A livewire of electracy
A hunter and gatherer in the digital forest
and believe you me, I am quite the huntress
I am linked up, checked in, hardwired,
and search engine optimized
You need to end your sentences in
#s if you want me to understand you
Color your conversations with emojis
Gifs to make a point
I’m lost in my axis between
joy and sadness when you tell me
there’s no access to your Internet
I can’t remember my own phone number,
I get lost on familiar streets
but I’ve got my iPhone to tell me my name,
and get me home safe
I’m using my phone’s WiFi hotspot to download
the Google Doc I wrote on my laptop
onto my iPad
I have transcended the physical,
I now live in digital
I am a translation of terabytes
a flesh-cased network
where nodes are joints,
connectors are lightning cables
and all of my wires fold into
a neat carrying case
I am a cybernated native
A livewire of electracy
A hunter and gatherer in the digital forest
and believe you me, I am quite the huntress
